Starter
So far I have created a number of assets. Creating assets such as the bowling balls and pins are quite easy, however creating the characters is proving to be quite difficult. Despite this I am still keeping up to my production schedule and I intend to keep doing this by working on the assets until they are created.

First thoughts on Unreal Engine 4
After using Unreal 4 for the first time, I think it is quite easy and fairly simple to operate. The tutorials I followed were good but lacked explanation in some parts, however I was able to gain a good understanding of the tools in the software. I would use the software to design all of my assets and characters, After designing a room with floors, windows and doors I think creating my game will be easy to create.

LO2: Control system/Game rules
There will be no HUD in the game.
The user can not move forward or backwards, as this would mean they could easily achieve high scores.
There will be few pins in the first level as the level's purpose is to make the user familiar with the game.
The game is first person.
When the user successfully hits the pin(s) the level will finish.
The level will not end until the user hits the pin(s).
The ball is allowed to bounce.
In the first level, the user is allowed to use as many throws as needed.
LO2: Target Audience
The target audience of Space Bowling are people between the ages of 8 - 25 who have some disposable income.
Eric is a 19 year old boy who studies criminology at Sheffield University. He lives in student accommodation with two of his closest friends who also study the same subject. Eric has a part time job where he works as a waiter at a posh restaurant, therefore Eric is an ABC1 as he is has quite a large disposable income. Eric is an avid gamer and has played video games ever since he was 6 years old. His favourite games series are Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row as he is extremely amused by action games as they are fast paced and exciting. Eric enjoys playing games on his iPad that he bought with the money his part time job. Eric plays football for his local team, and whilst waiting at the bus stop he enjoys playing games such as Angry Birds and 8ball pool to pass the time.

LO1: Identifying assets

LO1: Equipment needed
Adobe Photoshop CS6:
Needed for designing the game menu, logo and level designs. The software is fairly easy to use but depends on your experience/knowledge of the software. The main use of the software would be for creating the concept art which would then be re created in Maya or Mudbox. This software will be used at the start of the production process.
Unity:
Unity will be used after all the planning of the game is finished. Unity is a game creation system written in C++ and C#. This software is used to create games for multiple platforms. All the assets created in software such as Maya and Mudbox would be placed in this software and merged together. This software may be difficult to use as I have no experience using it.
Flash CS6:
Adobe Flash CS6 is a software platform used for creating vector graphics and animation games, these games are usually 2D platformers. This software may not be used as Unreal seems like a much better and efficient option to create the game.
Unreal Engine:
The unreal engine will be used to put together all the assets and used to create the final product. Some assets might be made in this software however the main use of it would be creating the blue prints so the game works as we planned. The software may be difficult to use as I have no experience with this software.
Maya:
Is a key software, this will be used to create the assets previously drawn out in photoshop. The assets such as NPC, PC and backgrounds will be created in this software. The software will be used early in the production of the game and seems fairly easy to use.
Mud box:

LO1: Idea synopsis
Space Bowling:
My chosen idea is 'Space Bowling' , this is a sports game that will be on Apple mobile devices and tablets as a digital download. The game will be available on the App Store.
In this game you are an astronaut who has become lost on his voyage into space and has been captured by Aliens. The only way to get back to planet Earth is to defeat the aliens at their favourite game, which is bowling. Each match you win you get closer to your home planet but the closer you get the more challenges you face. As you progress you acquire more skills and items, such as bowling balls with powers. The user gains XP after every match, these points can be used to buy accessories, for example the user can buy alternative outfits that increase the speed and power of the users bowling technique.
The game will be single player and multiplayer, however the user is advised to play single player first.
Micro transactions will be available in the game, however the user will only be able to use these after they have completed the first 2 levels.
The game will have 8 levels, the levels consist of 10 matches each, these will become progressively harder. However, the first level will be a basic match, that allows the user to get used to the game and physics.
Protagonist:
In the game, the character's name is chosen by the player. The character always has their uniform on, so the user can relate as they might not know if the character is a male or female (the character is male).
The character has been sent on a mission in to space, whilst in space his space ship crashed and he was abducted be extra terrestrials on Mars. The characters reason d'ĂȘtre is to defeat the aliens and get back to his home planet, Earth. The astronaut is significant as it is the only playable character in the game.
Level:
In the fist level, the player is required to defeat the lowest ranked Alien at a game of bowling in the dungeon where you are being held captive. The obstacles that are in the way of the user are the opponent, which is the alien and knocking the pins over.
The most important object the user will have to interact with is the bowling ball. The user will have to choose where to place the ball along with the spin and speed on it. The character will choose the speed of the run or walk on the platform where the bowling takes place. The user will interact with the pins, as they will knock them over with the ball. Some pins will have have powers when you hit them, for example some will explode knocking other pins over. The aliens throw meteors instead of bowling balls. The user will interact with the bowling balls or projectiles by swiping their fingers over the screen.
